Not at all! The Perth Rams are an inclusive rugby club where everyone is welcome, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or background. The Rams are all about inclusivity and connection—our players come from all walks of life, including gay, bisexual, transgender, and straight members of all body shapes, sizes, and ages, representing diversity from across WA and beyond. If you’re ready to train hard, play hard, and embrace our team values, you’re welcome to join.

The short answer is yes! Our Tri Tag and Touch competitions are for all genders. Everyone is also welcome to join us for our Union training throughout the season.
The WA Rugby Union competition does state that teams must be separated by sex assigned at birth. However, do not let this deter you from playing—dispensations can be made to get you on the field with our men’s team in this competition. Learn more here.
At present, we do not have a women’s Rams Rugby Union team in the WA competition; however, we are deeply committed to building one in the future. If you’re interested, we’d love to hear from you!
We would also love to connect you with one of our sister teams for the current RugbyWA women's season.
For touring tournaments, eligibility rules may vary based on the host country’s regulations. Please reach out to us for more details—we have exciting things planned in this space for 2026!

No experience? No worries! One of our main goals is to help people new to rugby learn and grow in a supportive environment where they can be themselves. Our team includes seasoned players with years of experience as well as players who are picking up a rugby ball for the first time.
We have a structured course at the start of each pre-season to train you from zero in a group setting. If you’ve missed that, get in touch and we’ll discuss your options.
-
Rugby is a physically and mentally challenging game, but one of the best things about joining is that you’ll get fit while you learn. Don’t stress if you’re not at peak fitness when you start—you’ll build strength and stamina through regular training sessions.

Not at all! We’re always excited to welcome new players. Drop by our training sessions held during the season every Tuesday and Thursdays from 6:30 pm (arrive at 6pm) at Curtin University’s rugby field, Edinburgh Oval.
For pre-season, the training location can change, keep an eye on socials or the Getting Involved page for the latest information

We are proudly based in Perth, Western Australia, and are WA’s first LGBTQIA+ rugby union club. Our club is affiliated with the Curtin Goats, and our home ground is at Edinburgh Oval, Curtin University.
Our post-match social events are held at Curtin Rugby Club’s facilities, where we foster community and celebrate our wins together.
-
The Rams currently compete in partnership with the Curtin Goats in the local rugby union season. We usually find ourselves in RugbyWA Community Grade.
We also participate in national and international tournaments, proudly representing Perth and WA on the global International Gay Rugby (IGR) stage.
-
Absolutely! As proud members of IGR, we represent WA at key events, including:
The Purchas Cup: A major trans-Tasman tournament against Australia’s inclusive rugby teams, including the Sydney Convicts, Brisbane Hustlers, Melbourne Chargers, Adelaide University Sharks, the New Zealand Falcons and more.
The Bingham Cup: Known as the “Gay Rugby World Cup,” held every two years. The Rams first competed in the 2022 Ottwa tournament and are gearing up for the next Bingham Cup in Brisbane 2026.
Our team also tours locally playing friendly matches against other friendly WA rugby clubs, fostering strong bonds with clubs across WA.

In addition to rugby union, the Perth Rams offer a non-contact rugby program, providing a non-contact, fun, and inclusive version of the sport. Open to all genders and skill levels, Tri Tag is perfect for those looking to play in a more social and non-contact environment.
Keep an eye on our socials for the latest announcements on our games.
